Acupuncture for Knee Pain
Acupuncture for Knee Pain in Boulder — Get Back to Moving
Knee pain has a way of quietly taking over your life. Maybe you’ve had to back off hiking or cycling. Maybe you’re wincing on the stairs or lying awake because you can’t find a comfortable position. Whether your pain came on from an injury, overuse, or has crept up gradually over time, it’s not something you should just learn to live with.
I treat a lot of knees at Boulder Dynamic Acupuncture — and I take a different approach than you might expect.
More Than Just Needles in the Knee
The knee is a joint caught between two demanding neighbors: the hip above and the foot and ankle below. What shows up as knee pain is often a reflection of tension, weakness, or dysfunction somewhere else in the chain. My training in massage therapy and bodywork means I assess the whole picture — the IT band, the hip flexors, the hamstrings, the calf — before deciding where to focus treatment.
Acupuncture reduces inflammation in the joint, calms the surrounding musculature, and helps restore normal neurological signaling to the area. For conditions like IT band syndrome, osteoarthritis, or post-surgical recovery, this multi-layered approach can make a significant difference.
Using different acupuncture techniques, such as Dr. Tan Balance Method and mirror imaging I’m also able to target the knee via a whole body approach. Tension in other areas of the body can attribute to pain in the knee, and by releasing that tension the overall pain in the knee can decrease. For example- often time’s I put needles in someones opposite elbow, tell them to walk/move their leg and they notice an immediate pain reduction! Acupuncture can really feel like magic, even though it has hundreds of years of development with clinical and research proven benefits.
