Acupuncture for Back Pain & Sciatica
Real Relief for Back Pain & Sciatica — Without the Guesswork
Back pain is one of the most common reasons people come to see me at Boulder Dynamic Acupuncture — and for good reason. Whether you’re dealing with a dull ache that never fully goes away, sharp pain that flares with movement, or the radiating burn of sciatica down your leg, it’s exhausting. It affects your sleep, your work, your workouts, and your mood.
The good news: this is exactly what acupuncture is built for.
Why Acupuncture Works for Back Pain
Back pain is rarely just a structural problem. It’s usually a combination of muscular tension, nerve irritation, inflammation, and compensatory patterns that build up over time — especially if you’ve been managing it for months or years.
At Boulder Dynamic Acupuncture, I start before the needles go in. Because of my background in massage therapy, every session begins with hands-on palpation — actually feeling where the tension lives in your body, where movement is restricted, and what your muscles are telling me. That physical assessment shapes exactly where and how I needle.
Acupuncture works by stimulating the nervous system, reducing local inflammation, and interrupting pain signals that have become stuck in a chronic loop. For sciatica specifically, I use targeted points along the lumbar spine and gluteal region to take pressure off the sciatic nerve and restore normal function to the surrounding muscles.
I’ve seen patients that have tried massage, chiropractic, yoga, PT, and a myriad of other therapies and the main thing that has helped the pain go away, and stay away is acupuncture! Releasing tension in the local area is essential, but I will also often do points on the limbs to release tension along the entire musculoskeletal line to address the underlying lingering tension. As the childhood song goes- the hip bone’s connected to the knee bone, is connected to the foot bones. So by needling areas in the feet (don’t worry it’s not painful) I’m able to release tension that directly relaxes the lower back and glutes
When appropriate, I may also incorporate herbal support to reduce systemic inflammation and help your body recover from the inside out.

“I came to see Brooks for some bad back pain I’ve had for years. Within the first treatment I felt immediate relief and my pain decreased 80%, I saw him a few more times and I don’t have pain in my back anymore!”- Joe F.
What to Expect
Most patients with back pain notice meaningful improvement within one session! Though it may take 4–6 sessions for the pain to completely subside. Treatment is cumulative — each session builds on the last. My goal isn’t only to get you out of pain, it’s to get your body moving and responding the way it should.
If you’ve tried physical therapy, chiropractic, or medication and still aren’t where you want to be, acupuncture often fills in the gaps those approaches can’t reach.
Back pain is one of my favorite things to treat. Not because it’s easy, but because it responds so well. Let’s take a look.
